What is TMJ?

TMJ stands for temporomandibular joint. It is the joint that connects your lower jaw to the rest of your head. The temporo mandibular joint could sometimes hurt when your jaw is not aligned with your head.

How to cure TMJ

TMJ pain treatment is widely available. Many dentists recommend the use of dental splints which you can use for 6 months. These splints will allow your jaw muscles to get used to the proper alignment of your teeth. It may also help if you could use a teeth mouth guard for the mean time. After the therapy, dental braces or retainers will be an option to align your teeth once again and stop TMJ for good.

Foods to avoid for TMJ patients

Technically, you can eat any foods that you want. However, bear in mind that your jaw joint is sensitive if you have TMJ pain. Therefore, avoid foods that require hard biting such as half-cooked meat or hard fruits. On the other hand, foods that require long chewing will help in exercising your jaw joint, relieving you of pain. For example, chewing gums are perfect to reduce the pain in your TMJ.
