What Causes Grinding Teeth And Jaw Popping Clicking Sound

It seems that I am not alone in having jaw popping and jaw clicking. Back in 2001, I had a huge headache in my right side of the head. All I thought it was brain cancer or something grave. However, with over 7 years of recurring head pain, my dentist discovered the culprit. It is TMJ or TMJ pain. This is short for Tempo mandibular joint pain.

So what causes grinding of teeth? Well, the TMJ is a joint beside you ears that connect your jaw to the head. When the jaw is misaligned, then you will have grinding teeth at night. This is involuntary movement. On the other hand, a popping jaw sound is also a symptom of TMJ. When you open your mouth, you will hear clicking jaw sounds as well. This means there is resistance in your TM joint.

How can we cure TMJ and reduce teeth night grinding? You can visit an orthodontist clinic. Depending on your xray, he will create a customized TMJ teeth splint. You will have to bite that splint for 6 months until your jaw aligns with your head. They he may suggest braces to further improve your teeth alignment.
