Four Reasons Why Facebook Is Unhealthy
You may not realize it but Facebook-ing all day everyday can pose serious health risks to you and especially to young children. For some people, this social site is very addicting which makes it unhealthy. Here are the four reasons why excessive Facebook may be harmful.
1. Have you read a published study about Facebook inducing depression? Some people get depressed by simply reading and looking at wall posts from their Facebook friends. How come? Well, most Facebook users are not true to themselves. They always like to pretend they do better than others. Posting newly purchased cars, telling people they are in an expensive restaurant or even showing a new iPhone posted on their walls can induce a level of insecurity among their friends. In that case, people who see them tend to feel badly about themselves, being “unsuccessful” in life.
2. Some Facebook games do not require mental skills to play. Sure they are enjoyable but how about the cognitive aspect of playing games? How can young children (of course there are very young Facebookers) be able to develop their mental skills with such games?
3. People who use Facebook tend to spend another two to three hours reading wall posts or choosing photos to upload. The enormous amount of time is wasted doing this which adds up to people’s online time. Remember, people who use computers for more than an hour without standing have higher risks of contracting stroke.
4. People become obsessed on how to come up with the best wall posts ever. Sure others would simply put non sense words and sentences up there but mind you, there are so many users who want to impress everyone by posting controversial wall posts. This only induces stress and anxiety in the long run.
Facebook is here to stay. It has many benefits but also has many disadvantages. Like many other websites that you enjoy, use it in moderation and make sure that you separate reality from virtual reality.
