What is OCD?
It is an anxiety disorder that gives unwanted and repetitive thoughts, ritualized activities and behavior and uncontrollable thoughts. Most of these thoughts are irrational and does not make sense. However, you are still compelled to do them that it seems like a repetitive ritual rather than an activity that you “should” do.
What are the usual signs and symptoms of OCD?
Obsessive thoughts
- Having crazy and unwanted thoughts. Most of these thoughts are violent and nature.
- Frequent hoarding of stuff and keeping them in a safe place. Some examples are soaps, detergents or even pencils.
- Intrusive thoughts which are considered to be sexually explicit
- Excessive thoughts on religious ideas and morals.
- Notion of symmetry that every thing should be perfectly symmetric and in order.
Compulsions
- The need to wash hands even if you just washed them a few seconds ago.
- Double checking of things excessively, For example checking the light switch is turned off or if the door is locked.
- Checking on family members to see if they are safe
Treatment and remedy for OCD
OCD is a behavior disorder. You need special attention and treatment from a professional like psychiatrists or psychologists. If you can manage your thoughts and compulsions, then you will be fine. Otherwise, if they affect your life, consult a professional.
