What Causes Shaking Head Tremor – Involuntary Shaking of Head And Jerking

We can shake our heads when we refuse something. However, some involuntary shaking of the head may be due to a medical condition. Usually, head shaking tremors or sudden head jerking are signs of epilepsy or an onset of stroke attack. However, there are some cases where anxiety, stress and panic attacks are to blame. What causes shaking head tremors?

Anxiety and panic attacks may result to tremors in the hands, head and other body parts. This is a natural overactive response of the muscles and nerves to a psychological condition. If you observe shaking of head when talking to people or when you are stressed, then most probably the cause is anxiety and stress.

On the other hand, epilepsy may also cause involuntary shaking of head. This could be rhythmic and not  a simple head tremor. If you notice other body parts to be shaking involuntarily, consult a doctor right away. It you only had head jerking or tremor for about once a week, and you feel that you are stressed out, then there is nothing to worry about.

Some shaking of head may be observed among babies. This is normal especially since they are on the development stage of building their nerves and muscle foundation. However, if you observe frequent trembling and shaking of head in your baby, consult a pediatrician right away.

Remedy and treatment for shaking head and tremors can be done at home. If this is a simple anxiety induced shaking, a simple relaxation activity will prove effective. Exercise a lot and interact with your family and friends and your panic attacks will go away.

On the other hand, if you are diagnosed with epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease or Sclerosis, you may take medications coming from your doctor and seek treatment regularly.
